Custom Handprint Stones

One of our most recent areas of expansion is in the creation of customized handprint stones. Whether the stone is created for eventual home use or as a gift for a parent or grandparent, we know it will be cherished for a lifetime. If you'd like to bring a camera to record the occasion, we don't mind. Watching your child's expression as their hand hits the goop is half the fun, and a photo makes a great addition to a gift card for the intended recipient to open.

In order to ensure that this "one-of-a-kind" gift meets your highest expectations, we appreciate knowing how old the hand's "owner" is, gender, and preference for rock type and colors. This helps us pre-select the appropriately-sized rocks so that when you come to the studio for your scheduled sitting, we are fully prepared. Handprinted stones take between 75-90 minutes from start to finished product and require the active assistance of two artists. The hand-dipping portion of the stone's creation requires about 5 minutes worth of attention from our subject, so it's best if the child is at least 2 and a 1/2 years old. Young infants make for challenging subjects because their hands or feet have reflexive reactions to the cool, squishy concrete.

When it comes to mixing concrete, timing is everything. We ask that you try to arrive within a 15-minute window of your pre-set appointment time. In today's traffic, this can sometimes be tricky; however, your punctuality allows the concrete to have ample time to bond, so that the stone is ready to be dipped into within 5-15 minutes, yet still be pliant enough to work with. If possible, we ask you to give us one last confirmation call when you are departing to our studio to tell us your estimated time of arrival, just in case we need to adjust when we mix your special batch.

Single custom orders that include the child's handprint, name/age/year, and inlaid rock design are $59. Keep in mind that we offer discounts for multiple orders within a family.
